Brian Ferguson

Brian Ferguson is a highly experienced operations and engineering leaderwith over 18 years' experience delivering complex programmes across the rail, manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Brian combines operational leadership with commercial insight, helping organisations maximise asset value, improve operational performance and realise long-term value from complex engineering programmes. His expertise spans engineering, project delivery, asset management, maintenance and continuous improvement.

Experience
Brian began his career in manufacturing and continuous improvement, developing expertise in Lean methodologies, operational excellence and project delivery before progressing into senior leadership roles within the rail industry.

He has held executive leadership positions across engineering, operations, procurement, asset management and maintenance, delivering strategic transformation programmes for organisations including Porterbrook, Gemini Rail Services and Rail Operations Group. Throughout his career, he has successfully led multidisciplinary teams of up to 350 people, managed multimillion-pound business units and delivered major engineering and maintenance programmes.

During his time at Porterbrook, Brian led the Rail Innovation Centre, Heavy Maintenance Projects, Planning and Asset Protection functions. He was responsible for a £3 million business unit with full P&L accountability, a £50 million annual maintenance strategy and supporting the optimisation of a £3 billion rolling stock portfolio, improving operational performance while maximising asset value.

Most recently, as General Manager at Rail Operations Group, Brian has overseen the acceptance and delivery of the company's €50 million investment in a new fleet of tri-mode locomotives. Alongside full commercial accountability for the Asset Leasing business, he leads engineering, procurement, asset management and investment activities while implementing programme management and business reporting frameworks to improve performance and support strategic decision-making.
