Ben Avery is a highly experienced finance leader specialising in contract economics, commercial strategy, and financial governance within complex, high-value environments.
He has a proven track record of managing financial risk, improving contract performance, cost minimisation and governance improvements. All focused to deliver strong commercial outcomes across transport and public sector-facing organisations and ultimately value growth for a company.
Ben offers deep expertise at an Executive level, such as Board governance, value growth, contract compliance, contract pricing and bid support, as well as support to the wider business through financial project management, contractual claim management, control implementations and Finance Director level support. He is particularly recognised for his ability to translate complex contractual and financial challenges into clear, value-driven solutions for clients.
Experience
Ben began his career in accountancy practice where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant before moving into the transport sector with Transport Uk Group (formerly Abellio UK), where he developed a strong reputation for delivering financial leadership across contract-led organisations.
During his time at Transport UK Group Ben held a number of senior roles including Finance Director, Financial Controller, Head of Project Management Office, and Head of Finance Projects.
Ben has led cross-company programmes focused on transition planning, asset optimisation, and risk mitigation, including strengthening procurement and project cost controls and supporting board-level decision making.
Ben has led governance and cost control across capital programmes, resolved multi million EBIT risks linked to contractual non-compliance, and managed complex claims processes involving legal and commercial stakeholders. He has also held statutory responsibility, such as cashflow, covenants, audit, and tax, while influencing bid strategy and identifying ongoing financial savings alongside bid and value growth opportunities.

Ben is a commercially driven and results-focused leader who operates effectively at board and executive level. He is known for bringing clarity to complex financial and contractual challenges, enabling organisations to make informed, strategic decisions.
