Dr Altay Mussurov
Head of Research

Altay is an applied econometrician and labour economist with extensive experience in applied research methods. He specialises in regression and causal analysis and is highly skilled at transforming complex data into actionable insights through interactive dashboards and clear reports for senior leaders.
Alongside his consultancy work, he has co-authored reports on SDGs for a global energy company, taught economics at universities, and published peer-reviewed research in international research journals.
Leadership
Altay began his career at the London School of Economics’ International Summer School as a tutorial leader, before moving into applied research at the University of Sheffield. There, he contributed to a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation and the UK’s main public funder of social science. This early experience gave him a strong foundation in applying rigorous, policy-relevant evidence to real-world problems.
He then worked as a lecturer at KIMEP University in Kazakhstan, where he took part in research projects funded by the World Bank, Canada’s International Development Research Centre, and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs.
Most recently, as Head of Research at Customer Plus, he delivered projects for major UK clients across healthcare, transport, and technology. His work ranged from designing and running a large-scale NHS Trust satisfaction survey (4,000+ respondents), to applying regression analysis to CSAT/NPS data for senior decision-makers, and conducting sentiment analysis for a US software company.
Over the past three years, he has produced annual reports for a major UK port authority, translating complex data into practical insights that informed strategic revisions.
Experience
Altay is an applied economist with experience leading research teams in both consultancy and academic settings. At Customer Plus, he directed a team of researchers, focusing on clear analysis and effective communication of findings to senior decision-makers. Earlier in his career, he supervised research assistants on applied economics projects and helped establish a student placement scheme with a Big Four accounting firm in Almaty.
Altay is straightforward and collaborative in his approach. He has a strong record of delivering projects to a high standard and providing robust empirical evidence for organisations.
